Actions concerning final disposal are presented for the Federal Republic of Germany, the former GDR, France, Great Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA and the USSR with a view to the following problems: Timeframes for isolation from the biosphere, radiotoxicity, safety analyses and forecasts. The authors conclude as follows: A sustainable solution to the problems of radioactive waste disposal is not in sight; on the contrary, the more detailed the investigations, the more complicated the problems. This is the reason why worldwide one has come off the request for final disposal 'as safe as possible', and now speakds of 'sufficiently safe' final disposal, defined by keeping within limiting values and applying the risk concept. Continued production of radioactive waste the authors think to be irresponsible. (orig./HP)

Dargestellt wird die Vorgehensweise der Endlagerung in der Bundesrepublik, der ehemaligen DDR, Frankreich, Grossbritannien, Schweden, Schweiz, USA und in der USSR anhand folgender Probleme: Zeitraeume der Isolierung von der Biosphaere, Radiotoxizitaet, Sicherheitsanalysen und Prognosen. Aus ihrer Analyse folgen die Autoren: Eine angemessene Loesung der Probleme der Endlagerung radioaktiver Abfaelle sei zur Zeit nicht absehbar; vielmehr sei erkennbar, dass die Probleme an Endlagerstandorten offensichtlich mit dem jeweiligen Detaillierungsgrad der Untersuchungen zunehmen. Nicht zuletzt deshalb sei man weltweit von dem Standpunkt abgerueckt, eine moeglichst sichere Endlagerung zu gewaehrleisten. Es ginge nur noch um eine ausreichend sichere Endlagerung, die durch die Einhaltung von Grenzwerten definiert wird oder durch Zugrundelegung des Risikobegriffs.
