Parity nonconservation in proton-proton scattering at 6 GeV/c
Description
The parity-violation of pp scattering at 6 GeV/c is examined in a relativized meson exchange. The Watson theorem is generalized to channels which are coupled by tensor forces. This generalization and a recent modified phase shift analysis of the scattering data are applied to compute the parity violating asymmetry in longitudinally polarized proton-proton scattering. The calculated asymmetry is an order of magnitude smaller than the experimental one. Wave function admixing is briefly considered in the same model and a comparison of theory to experiment is discussed. (orig.)
