Short-living radioisotopes from uranium series in coal mine atmosphere

Description

The intensive research of radon (Rn-222) concentration and its short-living decay products has been initiated in Polish underground hard coal mines at the beginning of the eighties. The project included measurements of the distribution of radon and its daughters concentrations as well as the equilibrium coefficient in more than 20 coal mines. The performed analyses allowed to find functions between the radioactive isotope concentration in air and the geological and mining conditions. The function between radon and radon daughters concentration and the occurring gas and fire hazards in mines has also been determined. (author)
