First results of visualizing neuroblastoma with 131I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine

5 children suffering from neurobalstoma were investigated with 131I-MIBG. 4 subjects with still existing tumorous tissue showed intensive specific tumor uptake, one subject without evidence of tumorous tissue and normal catecholamine level did not show focal activity. 131I-MIBG deserved further evaluation for diagnosis of neuroblastoma as well as for therapy because of the intensive and specific tumour uptake. As cases of neuroblastoma without MIBG uptake were reported by Shapiro and Fischer a compilation of these cases is highly desired. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Bei 5 Neuroblastom-Kindern, untersucht mit 131J-MIBG, zeigten alle 4 Kinder mit noch vorhandenem Tumor eine hohe spezifische Anreicherung der Substanz im Neuroblastom. Ein, z. Zt. tumorfreies, Kind mit normalem Katecholaminspiegel blieb ohne Herdbefund. 131J-MIBG sollte deshalb weiterhin als Diagnostikum fuer das Neuroblastom erprobt werden. Die therapeutische Anwendung dieser Substanz sollte bei der hohen spezifischen Anreicherung im Tumor geprueft werden. Da in der Literatur bisher auch fehlende Anreicherungen bei Neuroblastom beobachtet wurden (Shapiro, Fischer), erscheint eine Zusammenstellung der Ergebnisse moeglichst vieler, mit 131J-MIBG untersuchter Neuroblastom-Kinder wuenschenswert.
