Visibility of nuclear and radiological security in the Nucleus journal

Introduction: Nucleus magazine is the only nuclear profile publication in Cuba, created to disseminate the main results of the Cuban nuclear program for peaceful purposes. Since its creation in 1986, it has included articles about nuclear safety and radiation protection. The objective of the present study is to show the behavior of this theme in the Nucleus. Methodology: They were used Metric studies tools and content analysis (Berelson, 1952). It worked with two bases of data: INIS- International Nuclear Information System and ScIELO- Scientific Electronic Library Online. A search was conducted and scientific articles were compiled, organized in EndNote X4 and processed in Excel for tabulation. For the selection of the themes, the INIS subject categories with IRPA themes. RESULTS: From 1986 to 2017 the magazine published 127 articles on the subject of safety and radiation protection, being the aspects most representative: Radiological protection of the environment 23, Regulatory aspects 17, Dosimetry and nuclear instrumentation 17, Safety analysis and evaluation 14, Safety culture 12. CONCLUSIONS: The study carried out allows us to affirm that Nucleus is a scientific publication that shows the development of nuclear and radiological safety as a guarantee for safety and sustainability of nuclear science and technology applications in Cuba.
