Description
A time-dependent variational method for the time-dependent Schroedinger equation (TDSE) is presented for the study of multiphoton ionization of one-electron atoms. An isotropic Gaussian wave packet with variable width parameter was chosen as a trial function. The calculated ionization rates are compared with accurate nonperturbative results from Floquet theory and numerical integration of the TDSE
