Description
The breakup cross section, in the reaction of 70 MeV 7Li ions on 208Pb leaving the lead target in its ground state, is calculated in various approximations. It is shown that the prior form of DWBA as well as the high energy adiabatic approximation to the breakup amplitude yield cross sections which are much larger than the experimentally observed cross section. It is suggested that it is necessary to include non-adiabatic corrections, and that a more realistic approach to the Coulomb distortion of the projectile by the target nucleus is necessary. (orig.)
