Description

The optimization of costs is an important dimension of search for excellence in the operation of nuclear power plants. Cost control and reduction measures, that serve the general goals of operation, are the most effective ones. Activities like long term planning and Research and Development programs should be utilized as ''main tools'' also to promote the cost effectiveness of the organization. The examples given in the paper show that persistent work in reducing the costs results also in improvements of the safety related performance indicator's such as amount of disturbances during operation or number of component defects.
