Studies on the parameters affecting the Uptake of some radionuclides by fresh water fish

Creators

Description

From the prehistoric beginnings, through geological periods of times living organisms have been exposed to external radiation and/or internal exposure from natural radioactivity and cosmic rays, body burden K40 and C14 , and gamma radiation from earth, rocks and the structural materials of the buildings, and or from artificial radioactivity produced by nuclear explosions, radioactive wastes of all kinds discharged into the water environment. However, the increased use of radioisotopes in the peaceful applications and in the atomic experiments, led to increase the amount of radioactive materials released to the environment and in turn inside the living organism. The aquatic organisms play an important role in the distribution and recycling of the contamination radionuclides released into fresh water bodies
