Vacuum arc melting for production of heavy castings and optimum shapes
Description
Methods and conditions are considered for vacuum are melting and casting billets of varfous shapes conformable to refractory metals. Peculiar featupes of these procedures are shown for niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten and its alloys. Conditions of consumable-electrode arc melting of these metals are given. Casting schomes are presented which provide fabrication of slabs, tubular billets and shaped castings
