Pulling the plug on redundant RP training

The nuclear power industry has thousands of transient welders, engineers, and other workers with temporary jobs that require knowledge and skills needed in radiologically controlled work areas. Standardized General Employee Training Program in Radiological Protection (GET-RP) is a new alternative training at each facility. Now each utility compares its program with industry-wide guidelines and either applies for Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) certification or requests training assistance. Utilities participated in establishing the GET-RP guidelines because they were familiar with the practical requirements and were interested in upgrading their training programs.
