Description

Diamagnetic Mn2(CO8) (μTePh)2 (1) has been prepared by means of MnBr(CO)5 heating with Ph2Te2 in boiling benzene, while paramagnetic Mn2(CO)6(μ-TePh)3 (2), containing one non-coupled electron (μef 2.5 M.B. (296-78 K)) - by means of photochemical reaction between Mn2(CO)10 and Ph2Te2 in boiling tetrahydrofurane. According to the data of X-ray diffraction analysis 1 contains two and 2 - three PhTe-bridges. Mn-Te bonds in 2 (2.622(1) - 2.654(1) A) are some-what shortened as compared with the bonds in 1 (2.655(6) - 2.684(7) A). There is no Mn-Mn bond (Mn...Mn 3.921 (6) and 4.019(6) A in two independent molecules, the MnTeMn angle is 95.2(2) and 97.2(2)), whereas in 2 monoelectronic: metal-metal binding (Mn-Mn 3.058 (1)A, MnTeMn angle being 70.5 (1) deg - 71.2 (1)deg) is observed. 9 refs.; 2 figs.; 3 tabs
