Description

A study is made into structural changes in submicrocrystalline (SMC) titanium with a mean grain size of ∼ 0.4 μm on deformation. It is stated that under temperature - strain rate conditions of the experiment the dislocation slip inside of grains is a deformation mechanism. A qualitative similarity of deformation processes running both in SMC-titanium and titanium with more coarse grains is revealed. A specific feature of SMC-structure evolution is shown to be a higher rate of its development at early stages of plastic flow. It is suggested that this is due to a high level of internal stresses and a considerable gradient of strain nonuniformity
