Description

The theoretical ftamework of the fragmentation (or breakup) processes in the peripheral nuclei-nuclei collisions is presented in the light of the distored wave Born approximation methods. The emitted fragmentation is considered as spectator particle. Elastic and inelastic breakup, as well as the transitions from bound to unbound state stripping are discussed. The approach enables explicit presentation of the inclusive breakup cross sections. The theoretical model has been successfuly used for experimental data analysis. The possible reaction mechanism is illustrated for light ion reactions at nonrelativistic energies. The discussion of gross properties like the impact parameter dependence of breakup probabilities shows simple geometrical interpretations, similar to the results at relativistic energies. 6 figs., 39 refs
