IRSN's opinion on the decision project concerning the intervention level related to stable iodine administering in case of radiological emergency
Description
This document discusses the IRSN's opinion about a project of the French Nuclear Security Authority (Autorite de surete nucleaire, ASN) to lower from 150 mSv to 50 mSv the intervention level for administering stable iodine. The document first recalls the planned measures for people evacuation and the relationship between the accident severity level, the distance to the nuclear plant, time, the thyroid dose, and the administering of iodine. It outlines the evolution of this relationship between investigations performed in the 70's and 80's, and since then. It comments the implications of such a lowering of the intervention level (or of maintaining the current level), outlining the need for further investigations
