Influence of the temperature on groundwater movements in jointed rock masses with applications to radioactive waste disposal

  • 1. Hagconsult, Goteborg, Swed

Description

In the Swedish radioactive waste repository concept, influences of temperatures on groundwater flow are indirect on hydraulic conductivity and direct on thermally induced flow. The latter does not lead to the formation of convective cells but causes a slight upheaval of the regional flow above the repository. The effect on instrinsic permeability and viscosity is more pronounced which is demonstrated. 7 refs
