Department of Training and Consulting - Overview

Description

The Department of Training and Consulting is serving secondary school pupils and teachers, university students and the general public. As usual we have been visited by more than 4500 visitors, mainly students from secondary schools in Poland. The Department is constantly developing experiments which can be conducted by students of secondary schools and universities, as well as by professionals. At the moment there are about 20 experiments available to the guests of the Department. They cover measurements of the lifetimes, elements of radioprotection, absorption of radiation in various materials, excitation of fluorescence radiation, influence of magnetic field on beta radiation as well as electrons emitted from typical electron guns, Compton scattering and elements of gamma spectroscopy, search for radioactive pollutions etc. The web side of the Department contains educational materials (part of it can be found on international platform http://www.nupex.org), quizzes and self-teaching materials. A new educational poster on nuclear fusion was designed and is now distributed among the visiting schools. Also a brochure, in fact miniature monograph 'Encounters with radioactivity' (in Polish) was published by the Department on occasion of the 50th Anniversary of creation of the Institute of Nuclear Research in Poland. The Department played a key role in organization of so-called Open Days prepared for the public on this occasion. This activity resulted in design of a number of new posters and banners decorating also now the nuclear centre at Swierk. (author)
