Ultrasonic testing of stainless steels affected by intercrystalline corrosion

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Neftekhimicheskoj i Gazovoj Promyshlennosti (USSR)

Description

Multilayer and two-layer models of steel are considered, where intercrystalline corrosion occurs. Propagation rate and damping coefficients of longitudinal and transverse waves have been calculated in the ossenced layer and in the bulk of the sample whose surface displays intercrystalline corrosion. An ultrasonic method for controlling intercrystalline corrosion of stainless steels by changes in damping and in propagation velocity in the corroded metal is described along with a special small ultrasonic device for controlling intercrystalline corrosion
