Description

Neutron irradiation embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel steels needs to be predicted with high accuracy for long-term operation of light water reactors. Since there is a slight difference in the irradiation temperature of boiling water reactors and pressurized water reactors, it is important to understand the effect of irradiation temperature on embrittlement. We present in this study kinetic Monte Carlo computer simulation results of damage accumulation in Fe at different temperatures. The results are analyzed using the idea of temperature effect models developed by NRC/ASTM and Jones et al. We found that the simulation results are well described by the Jones model that determines the effect of irradiation temperature as a linear function of the temperature. (author)
