Description
Painful bone metastases are common in advanced prostate cancer. Samarium 153-ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid (153Sm-EDTMP) is a β-particles emitter that concentrates in areas of enhanced osteoblastic activity and used for palliate pain from bone metastases. The aim of our study was to assess the efficacy of 153Sm-EDTMP therapy. Karnofsky performance status, pain score (numerical rating scale), analgesic score (WHO) and blood count were evaluated before, and 1 and 3 months after the treatment. Our study shows both the efficacy and the safety of Sm-153 in repeated treatments for metastatic bone pain in patients with prostate cancer suffering from painful bone metastases . Its administration offers clinical relevant pain relief with tolerable hematological toxicity and then enjoys a better quality of life, waiting the use of theranostics agents.
