The revised Radiation Protection Ordinance. A practice commentary

This book not only contains a full-length reproduction of the legislative text including all of the 11 riders to the ordinance but also detailed comments on questions related to its use in legal practice as well as a reproduction of the Atomic Energy Act. As the amendment to the ordinance affects all but a few of the former regulations, possible approaches and solutions to any problems arising from these legal alterations are dealt with at length. The book informs about numerous individual measures of considerable importance like the supplementary regulations concerning the protection of the population, which mainly provide a set of rules for the radioecological method of calculation and dose factors to be used. Particular emphasis is on fundamental changes of major concern to those handling these regulations like, for instance, the introduction of an effective dose and of a maximum permissible value for full-life occupational dose, which was set at 400 mSv; account is also taken of the revised version of the rules governing the use of radioactive substances in medicine and clinical research and amendments to the regulations on physical radiation protection control. Not to be overlooked is the importance of rules permitting the transportation of radioactive substances to be kept under stricter control, of job classifications showing which kind of work would require which permission according to the radiation protection ordinance (StrlSchV) and also of the regulations on waste management in their revised versions.
