Description
Eu2+ compounds are known for their luminescent properties. These properties are reviewed, particularly the recently discovered sharp line f→f emission and the use of Eu2+ containing compounds in X-ray intensifying screens. The period from 1971 to 1977 is emphasized since 1971 was the year when the f→f emission of Eu2+ was first observed. Finally the authors discuss the structural and optical properties of the BaFCl-EuFCl system. (Auth.)
