Description

The SECC will design, construct and beam test a silicon electromagnetic calorimeter of cross sectional area 1,000 cm2, employing about three square meters of silicon diodes. The 28 layer device will consist of one radiation length tungsten radiators each instrumented with 300μm silicon detectors. The design goal for the response of the electronics is one SSC beam crossing (16 nanoseconds). Signals will be summed at the periphery of the radiator structure, for a total channel count of 1,520. The development of this subsystem module builds on the SSC generic research and development work of the collaboration, silicon diode fabrication, current compensated preamplification, and radiation effects.
