Theory of EHD ion sources on PBFA 2

  • 1. Sandia National Labs., Albuquerque, NM (United States)

Description

In PBFA II, the magnetic field varies by about 10% across the ion-emitting surface. This causes a similar variation in the electric field at the anode. How this spatial variation of the electric field will affect ion beam dynamics and diode behavior is investigated by putting a 10.5 MV/cm ion emission threshold in MAGIC. The authors also investigate the effect of using a plasma prefill with an EHD anode. Comparison to experiments are made if possible
