Computerized tomography utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance

Description
This system has many advantageous characteristics in comparison with conventional CT scanners utilizing X-ray transmission or gamma-ray emission. Basic experiments have been carried out in Toshiba to commercially availabel NMR-CT scanners. The principle of NMR imaging and main features of this diagnostic equipment are briefly explained here. Some NMR-CT images obtained in experiments, which show hydrogen nucleus density distribution in the objects, are demonstrated. Difficulties encountered in developing practical NMR-CT scanners are also discussed. (author)
