Description
Luminescence spectra and decay are measured under X- and gamma-ray excitation in single crystals of PrF3:Ce3% prepared by the micro-pulling-down method and compared with those of CeF3. The dominant emission of Ce3+ is peaking at 285 nm and both the photoluminescence and scintillation decays show similar decay times of 17 and 20 ns, respectively. Scintillation efficiency of PrF3:Ce is higher than that of CeF3 due to the absence of specific quenching in the ionisation track found earlier in the CeF3 scintillator.
