Management of patient feces and urine administered with therapeutic 131I

Description

The domestic and foreign directions of regulation on the management of therapeutic 131I administered patients and also the comparison between the measurement results of the temporary point-of-view and the emission control standards in Korea were analyzed. Considering the visit schedule of outpatients in the management of patient wastes that focus on treatment wards, all institutes have established effluents management plans and developed standard regulatory requirements that can be used as regulatory examination guidelines. The significance and limitations of the effluents control standards applied to the management of therapeutic 131I administered patients in Korea were examined and compared with the U.S. effluents control standards. In international recommendations such as the European, IAEA, and ICRP, the benefits of not storing patient urine are far greater. In Korea, it is mandatory to install private toilets and storage tanks in all treatment hospitals. In 2015, it was planned to evaluate and manage the effluent concentrations of therapeutic 131I administered patients considering all outpatients at all 131I treatment hospitals. Regulatory agencies have drawn up regulatory guidelines that include regulatory stances, therapeutic 131I administered patient's effluent assessment methods, and drainage facility management to be applied in care and testing
