Gamma radiolysis of [(C5H5)2Co]+ cation in aqueous solution

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Fiziko-Khimicheskij Inst., Moscow (USSR)

Description

Radiolysis of [(C5H5)2Co]+ cation (RCo+) in 6x10-3 - 6x10-2 mol/l aqueous solutions in the case of pH 1.0 - 12.5 under the effect of Co60 gamma rays, is investigated. G(-RCo+) radiation chemical decomposition yield rises with the increase of H+ ion concentrations and RCo+ cations. Air oxygen has no effect on the G(-RCo+) value. It is found that a solvated electron takes part in RCo+ cation radiolysis. Radiolysis mechanism is discussed. Reaction rate constant of RCo+ cation with a solvated electron is calculated: ksub(RCosup(+) + esub(aq) → RCo)=(4.6-6.8)x109 l/molxs
