The use of morpholine to counteract two phase erosion corrosion at Oldbury-on-Severn Power Station

Description

Two phase erosion-corrosion tube failures have occurred in the evaporator section of once-through low pressure boilers at Oldbury-on-Severn Nuclear Power Station. Morpholine treatment of the steam/water circuit has been applied and available evidence indicates that the rate of attack has been significantly slowed if not halted. Full condensate polishing has been maintained, despite the high concentrations of morpholine employed, by operation in the morpholine mode. Work leading to the adoption of the morpholine levels in use is described and investigations into the operation of the polishing plant in the amine form discussed. (author)
