Measurement of scattered radiation exposure in emergency installation Covid-19 emergency at Bendan Pekalongan hospital as an effort radiation protection

  • 1. Instalasi Radiologi, Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Bendan, Pekalongan (Indonesia)

Description

The pandemic has had an impact on the emergency room facilities at Bendan Hospital. The management provides a non-Covid-19 emergency room and a special emergency room for Covid-19 patients as well as providing a temporary radiology examination room in the emergency room to screen Covid-19 patients. The radiology examination room in the Covid-19 emergency room has a room size that does not meet the minimum standards for radiology examinations. In addition, the location of the examination room which is near the lobby and entrance to the Covid-19 emergency room is a place that is often passed by both health workers and the general public, so it is necessary to consider the value of radiation exposure. As a radiation protection measure, scatter radiation exposure is measured to find out if there are any leaks around the room. Dosage Limit Value for Radiation Workers based on PERKA BAPETEN No. 4 of 2013, an average of 20 mSv/year. Meanwhile, the dose limit value for community members or general public is 1 mSv/year. Data collection was carried out by irradiating the Water Phantom CT Scan Head object, this phantom is used as a scatter radiation object which has an attenuation equivalent to the human body and is not too large in size so it can be easily moved for testing. The distance from the source to the object is 1 meter. The exposure factors used are 90 kV and 32 mAs which are the highest possible exposure factors. Exposure was carried out at 8 points around the examination room with a survey meter. Officers who take measurements use radiation protection such as aprons and lead glasses. The measurement results show an exposure value that exceeds the dose limit value so that it becomes a consideration for the management of Bendan Hospital in an effort to optimize radiation protection.
