PWR steam generator chemical cleaning process development

  • 1. Electric Power Research Inst., Palo Alto, CA

Description

As a result of work sponsored by the Steam Generator Owners Group, a process using nonproprietary chemicals and application techniques has been developed for the removal of secondary side corrosion product deposits in PWR steam generators. The process has been extensively tested in small-scale test vehicles and has demonstrated effectiveness at removing both synthetic and actual steam generator corrosion product deposits. Testing to resolve concerns regarding sulfur residues, the possibility of excessive corrosion to certain weldments, and to qualify portions of the process for field application by participating utilities is currently under way
