Solid state detectors for the assay of Pu, Am and U
Description
Si(Li) X-ray detectors have been used successfully both in the laboratory and in contaminated desert areas to measure Pu, Am and Cs in the topsoil. Intrinsic (Hyperpure) germanium detectors should be used for higher energy gammas. They are particularly useful for assay of 235U in the presence of 238U daughters. They are also useful for the higher energy Pu radiations
