Recent NIIMS ICS enhancements for U.S. spill response

Description

A standardized Incidence Command System (ICS) format and development of a common Operations Guide (FOG) was recently agreed to by the U.S. Coast Guard, the California Dept. of Fish and Game Office and Spill Prevention, and representatives of the petroleum industry and oil spill response organizations. The Task Force adopted the ICS of the National Interagency Incident Management System (NIIMS), the primary emergency response management system used in the United States today. Enhancement to the system specific to oil spills, use of the system by the U. S. Coast Guard and plans for nationwide training for Coast Guard personnel and for the public, were reviewed. 3 refs., 7 figs
