Multi element neutron activation analysis of dietary components for estimating intake of nutrients
Description
Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) using short and long term reactor irradiation followed by high resolution gamma spectrometry has been employed for the determination of 17 elements (Br, Ca, Cl, Co, Cr, Fe, K, Hg, Mn, Na, P, Rb, Se and Zn) in seven cereals and ten vegetables. Barley is found to be rich in Cr, Mn, P, Rb, Se and Zn and maize in Ca content. Green leafy vegetables have been found to be rich in Fe. In general cereals and vegetables containing carbohydrates were not found to be rich in mineral contents. (author). 5 refs., 1 tab
