Description

The angle β of the unitarity triangle can be measured through CP asymmetries in several decay modes. The most commonly considered decay mode in B0→J/ψKs, J/ψ→ ee, μμ, and Ks→π+π-. The dilepton in a secondary vertex provides a distinctive signature for triggering and reconstruction. Other modes in this class have a χc instead of a J/ψ, detected through χc→J/ψγ. Also there are modes with a K*0 instead of a Ks, detected through K*0→Ksπ0. The consensus of the group was that detection efficiencies for the photons would not be high enough to make these modes useful. The study of b decays at hadron colliders has started at the Tevatron. There are still many steps to take to achieve a measurement of sin(2β). CDF and D0 have plans to take the next step in a program that may culminate in an initial measurement. An internal wire fixed target experiment in the HERA ring may also be able to measure sin(2β) with several years running. The large central detectors at SSC and LHC appear to have the ability to measure sin(2β) in one year of running at a luminosity one tenth of design. However, the dedicated forward and fixed target B detector proposals claim to have significantly better precision.
