A study to develop strategies for strengthening Korea's role in the Generation-IV International Forum on the advanced nuclear energy system

Description

Fourteen states have participated in a Generation-IV International Forum(hereafter GIF) to discuss the international cooperation among member states for the Advanced Nuclear Energy System. Korea has acceded to the two System Arrangements since 2006; Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor(SFR) and Very High Temperature Reactor(VHTR). To increase the level of connectivity between these Joint Research Projects and national R and D activities, strengthening Korea's leadership in the forum is important. Especially, as Korea has become the Vice Chair state of Policy Group since May 2016, supporting the Vice Chair activities based on specific Task Force is necessary. The content and range of the study is followed; △ Support the GIF Vice Chair activities including participation in GIF Policy Group and Chair's regular teleconference, △ Set up the Task Force for effective business promotion with Korea GIF Agency and GIF Chairs, △ Participate and Implement Gen-IV Joint International R and D Projects. Based on supporting the GIF Vice Chair activities, the research trend and information about their advanced nuclear energy system is shared among the GIF members. The continued Task Force activities and the increased level of connectivity between Joint Research Projects and national R and D would contribute on the national promotion of progress plan on the Future Nuclear Energy Systems. The strengthened Korea's leadership in GIF Joint Research Projects would also play a role in establishing the feasibility and performance capabilities of the next generation nuclear energy systems.
