Effects of different doses of X-radiation on the development of chromosomal aberrations and rate of their elimination from bone marrow cells in mice
Description
Male mice from an inbred CPB-S strain aged 11-12 weeks were exposed to X-rays in doses of 50 R, 200 R and 400 R. Cytological preparations were obtained from femoral bone marrow 2, 8, 18, 21, 24, 32, 40, 48, 72-96 and 120 hours after exposure. At each time period the experimental groups and the control group comprised 6 animals each. In the cytological preparations the mitotic index was calculated analysing 5000 cells in each animal. Statistically significant differences were found in the values of the mitotic index in the experimental groups and the control group. A correlation was noticed also between the radiation dose and the value of the mitotic index and the duration of mitotic inhibition in the cells of the animals exposed to radiation. (author)
