Description
The possibilites for fractography in the development of advanced ceramics is presented. Techniques for direct observation of the fracture surface and crack path profiles are reviewed. The connection between the fracture mechanics tests and fractography is stressed, and demonstrated for composite ceramic systems Al2O3+ZrO2 and Si9N4+β-Si9N4-whiskers. (orig.)
