Nonsurgical pneumoperitoneum

Description

The radiographic evidence of free air in the abdomen is usually associatd with gastrointestinal perforations which represent a surgical emergency. However, pneumoperitoneum may also develop in a variety of benign conditions and following diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. This article provides a comprehensive list of nonsurgical causes of pneumoperitoneum. (orig.)

Der roentgenographische Nachweis freier Luft im Abdomen ist gewoehnlich mit Perforationen im Gastrointestinalbereich assoziiert, die sofortige chirurgische Massnahmen erfordern. Es kann sich jedoch auch um gutartige bzw. diagnostische und therapeutsche Ursachen handeln. Die moeglichen Ursachen fuer ein Pneumoperitoneum werden aufgelistet. (orig.)
