Description
We conducted experiments and analyses to verify the performance and obtain data to be used in evaluating the design of a large deformable Steel Damper system. The Steel Damper has been developed as a seismic energy absorber in order to ensure the seismic safety of a seismic isolated building for FBR Plant. The Steel Damper system developed was a cantilever beam with a taper at the bottom to improve energy absorption. For this system, we evaluated the dynamic characteristics in terms of hysteresis and fatigue rupture using models one third of the full scale. Secondly, we evaluated the displacement performance under actual conditions using full scale models. Additionally we verified the operability of a large deformable Steel Damper system, including its bearings. The conceptual view of the area around the steel dampers is shown
