Intraarterial therapy in patients with destructive pancreatitis

  • 1. Meditsinski Fakultet, Plovdiv (Bulgaria)

Description

Destructive pancreatitis is among the severest diseases involving abdominal cavity organs, with the kallikrein-kinin system, fermentemia and toxemia playing a major role in its pathogenesis. Since 1983, the authors have successfully been applying intraarterial selective therapeutic infusion in truncus coeliacus and a. mesenterica superior after diagnostic arteriography. The procedure is performed in twelve patients of which two presenting total necrosis, five - focal necrosis, and five - hemorrhagic pancreatitis. The author's experience with patients presenting clinic pictures of varying degree is discussed with emphasis laid on the important practical implications of the method in both moderate-severe and severe cases, which are given an opportune intraarterial therapy alone, or in conjunction with a complex therapeutic approach - operative and conservative. 12 refs.
