Electron microscopy studies of structure of decomposed supersaturated Mg-22 wt.% Gd solid solution
Description
Electron microscopy was applied to study the orientation and crystal structure of precipitations produced as a result of decomposition of supersaturated solid solution of gadolinium in magnesium at high temperature ageing. Rich in gadolinium precipitations have a form of plates arranged by prismatic planes {100} of the matrix. They possess a monoclinic crystal lattice which in a definite manner is oriented in relation to crystal lattice of magnesium solid solution
