Interaction and penetration of heated UO2 with limestone concrete

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., IL (USA)

Description

The aerosol sampling device did not show any detectable radioactive particles. The detectable aerosol particles were C and very minute concrete constituents. Selected UO2/ concrete samples showed more or less uniform distribution of UO2 and concrete constituents. Formation of CaU2O6 and Ca2U2O7 chemical compounds between UO2 and concrete constituents and the presence of white powder, mostly CaO, at the interface of concrete and UO2/concrete solidified mass are indicated.
