Computer aided design of printed coils for magnetic corrections
Description
MIMAS, the new injection synchrotron of the Saturne accelerator of Saclay, uses for its magnetic corrections printed coils, which were devised for Saturne 11 in 1977. For the design of these coils, developed are programs plotting the printed circuits from the intensity requirements, and obtained is computer processing going from magnetic calculations to the production of the drawings directly usable for manufacturing the circuits. The coils are made of spirals realized in special printed circuits, made of two thick layers of copper (0.5 mm) stuck on a thin isolator (≤ 0.5 mm). Dipolar fields of about 30.x10-4 T or multipolar fields are easily obtained with an accuracy better than 1%, in any environment, even inside a classical magnet. Computer design associated to photochemical processing is flexible, cost and time saving and suitable for mass production
