Curie Institute: against cancer, a research center and a hospital

hundred years ago, in 1909 was born the Radium Institute. It consisted in two sections: one under the direction of Marie Curie, devoted to to researches in physics and chemistry, the other one directed by Claudius Regaud devoted to the radiation biological effects. In 1920 was created the Curie foundation that allowed to receive patients. In 1970, The Radium Institute and the Curie foundation merge to become the Curie Institute. The research area has for objective to understand the process of becoming cancerous, how a cell become malignant and provoke the cancer formation. The department of transfer and pre clinical development is a link between hospital and the research units. For the Curie Institute the continuity between research and treatments will allow to propose to patients therapies against cancer made to measure. (N.C.)
