Application of simulation technique for assessment of radioactivity in sample of irregular geometry
- 1. Radiation Safety Systems Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
Description
Irregular shaped radioactive samples are encountered during few occasions. Radioactivity assessment of such samples is essential for proper disposal of the material. In this present work a simulation technique is used to calibrate 3 inches x 3 inches NaI(Tl) detector for non-conventional geometries or irregular shape samples. The methodology consists of development of efficiency parameter from the simulated spectrum using detector and collimator model. The efficiency evaluated will be applied to experimental spectra to calculate the specific activity (Bq/gm) of the sample of irregular shape
