Application of radioisotopes and radiation control in the iron and steel industry
Description
The utilization of radioisotopes in iron and steel making is divided into the utilization of RI tracers, the utilization of RI measuring instruments, and the utilization of RIs for analysis, nondestructive inspection and safety devices. These applications are outlined. The measuring instruments utilizing radiation are used in about 60 places in one steel plant, therefore various radiation control has been carried out on the basis of laws and regulations to protect many people from radiation. The basic concept of radiation control is the strict observance of the related laws and the prevention of radiation exposure accidents. The important items to be carried out in radiation safety management are enumerated. The regulation for the prevention of radiation injuries must be drawn up according to the law, in which the organization, the use, preservation and transport of RIs, the measurement of leaking dose, records and their preservation, education and training, the measures required for detecting injuries, health maintenance and at the time of danger must be prescribed. Radiation control system and the thorough education on radiation are essential. In order to promote the industrial utilization of radiation and RIs, it is desirable to simplify the health examination of employes, to carry out the thorough control of medical radiation exposure, to unify the double administration and others.
