Investigation into phase transformations in Fe-C system alloys containing up to 2,0%C by magnetic susceptibility measurements
- 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Metallurgii
Description
Using the magnetic susceptibility measurement method peculiarities of crystallization of iron alloys containing 0.16-1.98 mass% C have been investigated. The investigation has been performed in the 800-1900 deg C temperature range at 75-150 deg C/min cooling and heating rates. The alloys containing from 0-5 to 1.6 mass% C are noted to crystallize into delta-phase, which does not conform to the Fe-C equilibrium phase diagram. The delta-phase crystallization in these alloys is found to correspond to the continuation of the equilibrium lines into the region of metastable equilibria of the Fe-C phase diagram. The alloys with carbon content exceeding 1.6% are crystallized with the stable γ-phase segregation along the equilibrium solidus line
