ESR studies of phosphoric ion in α-quartz

Description
Measurements of electron spin resonance are carried out on X- and γ-ray irradiated single crystals of phosphorus-doped quartz. A pair of absorption lines showing hyperfine interaction with a nuclear spin of phosphoric ion is observed at room temperature. This ESR signal is ascribed to a paramagnetic center of C2 symmetry having g and A tensor components of g1=2.0011, g2=2.0025, g3=2.0003 and |A1|=1065, |A2|=1049, |A3|=989 in units of 10-4 cm-1, respectively. The center is considered to be an s-like electron localized at a substitutional pentavalent phosphoric ion surrounded by four oxygen ions. (auth.)
