Description
Cross sections of the proton-16O elastic scattering and the inelastic (with the excitation of the 3- (6.13 MeV) level) scatter+ng of protons and pions with energies about 1 GeV are calculated in framework of the molecular model of 16O and using the Glauber theory. The nucleus 16O is considered as consisting of four α clusters, their equilibrium configuration being at the vertices of the regular tetrahedron. In is shown that the mechanism of the excitation of the nuclear level and the excitation cross sections are very sensitive to the nuclear model, and in the model in view the collective level 3- is excited by means of multiple collisions. A reasonable description of the experimental data at the momentum transfers up to the maximum in the inelastic cross section is obtained. A more detail and reliable mesurement of the inelastic cross sections would provide with forcible arguments pro or contra the molecular model of the nucleus 16O
